Welcome to AOA's Mentor Exchange: iLearn The goal of the mentor exchange is to establish a mechanism for members of the osteopathic family to obtain guidance and coaching through the creation of a mentor relationship. A mentor relationship is a process whereby a mentor and mentee work together to discover and develop the mentee's abilities. This special relationship is a fundamental form of human development where one person invests time, energy and personal know-how in assisting the growth and ability of another person. NOTE: The Mentor Exchange program requires an e-mail address. A FREE e-mail account is available through DO-Online. Just log in and click on Open Internet e-mail and Calendar in your Inbox. Your address will be username@do-online.org Sign Up to Be a Mentor Mentors are special people that, through their deeds and work, help their mentees move toward fulfilling his/her potential. Use this link to fill out the Mentor Profile. Your information will be added to the Mentor Database. Mentees seeking a mentor relationship will choose criteria within their areas of interest. Mentors will be notified when a mentee has selected their profile. It is the responsibility of the mentor to make the initial contact within two weeks of receiving notification to establish this relationship. The AOA will be notified once a mentor relationship is initiated. Find a Mentor The mentee can only experience the benefits of mentoring by assuming ownership of what the mentor offers. Mentees will choose the mentor criteria of most interest to them and complete the search. A list of mentors matching their selections will be provided. Mentees will then be asked to fill out pertinent information about them self, including a personalized note of introduction. This introduction should include any questions they would like addressed by the mentor, or items of interest they would like the mentor to know. A notice with this introduction will be sent to all respective mentors and will assist in identifying areas of common interest. Periodic surveys will be sent to the mentor and mentee by the AOA staff to obtain feedback and track the progress of the mentor relationships. The mentor exchange web pages were developed to provide a vehicle for DOs to offer their guidance and wisdom, and for student doctors, interns, resident and DOs who are seeking a mentor to benefit from a mentor's knowledge and experience.
