The Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association is a non-profit organization comprised of friends and family members of osteopathic physicians who work to promote and support the osteopathic profession in the educational, legislative and social arenas.

The Council of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents is composed of the elected student body presidents of the 23 member colleges of osteopathic medicine. The purpose of the organization is to provide a mechanism for the interchange of ideas among osteopathic medical students and between them and others concerned with osteopathic medical education. AODME provides leadership for the development, improvement, and evaluation of education and training of osteopathic physicians at all levels in order to further the quality of the osteopathic profession. This association has 230 members and has one bi-monthly publication.

Membership: Active: Includes any osteopathic physician or non-physician, whose job title or position indicates a leadership role in either osteopathic medical education or medical administration; ($300). Associate: Includes osteopathic physicians who do not qualify for active membership, as well as non-osteopathic physicians who have job titles, positions or interests in osteopathic medical education and/or administration; ($300). Honorary: Individuals or organizations who have contributed materially to osteopathic education over an extended period of time. Student: Student council representation is encouraged.

AOSED was organized in 1918 for the purpose of strengthening AOA-affiliated state divisional societies, promoting coordination of divisional society programs, providing assistance for the development of divisional society leadership, and aiding with efforts of the AOA in the advancement of the osteopathic profession in the United States.

Membership: AOSED includes 75 dues-paying members. Active: executive directors, executive secretaries, secretaries, or secretary-treasurers of divisional societies and affiliated organizations of AOA; Associate: second or third staff executive of a divisional society or affiliated organization providing the society's chief executive is an active member shall be granted to associate executive directors or associate executive secretaries. Honorary: members who have rendered outstanding and extraordinary service to the society. Dues of active members are based on the number of AOA members in the divisional society.

The NAOF works to:

  1. To organize and maintain a group of osteopathic foundations represented by executive staff professionals who offer resources for promotion and/or funding of osteopathic programs in seeking to provide a better understanding of osteopathic medicine and to serve the healthcare needs of the general public.
  2. To provide advice, counsel, and expertise to the AOA and other osteopathic organizations, on request, in such areas as foundation management, funding resources, grant proposal development, public relations, marketing and other issues and programs affecting osteopathic medicine.
  3. To exchange ideas and information among members of this association through educational programs, publications, meetings and conferences.
  4. To provide a forum for the AOA and other osteopathic organizations to present fundraising proposals, and to discuss and evaluate, where appropriate, these needs on a local or regional level based on each individual foundation's bylaws, goals and objectives, funding restrictions, articles of incorporation and legal restrictions.
  5. To provide assistance to osteopathic groups seeking to organize new foundations.
  6. To acquire, preserve and maintain data and information relative to its members and their programs as well as regulations and laws pertaining to foundations in general.
  7. To not infringe on the rights, bylaws, mission or general purpose of individual osteopathic foundations.
  8. To do all things incident to or necessary for the accomplishment of these objectives.

Membership: The voting membership in this association shall be composed of the chief executive officer or the official designee of any freestanding osteopathic foundation or foundation affiliated with the AOA, its affiliated organizations, divisional societies, and local affiliates, osteopathic colleges and hospitals, and such other osteopathic foundations as deemed appropriate.

Membership: Comprised of hospital presidents or CEOs. Leaders of hospitals that are accredited by the Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program or that have osteopathic graduate medical education are strongly encouraged to participate. DOCARE receives and maintains a fund or funds of assets for use in charitable, scientific, and educational endeavors. This can include promoting the health and physical well-being of the people in the United States and in foreign countries with inadequate healthcare; coordination of a body of volunteer physicians and other healthcare professionals or laymen in providing healthcare services to areas of critical need; establishing hospitals and clinics where needed in foreign countries in cooperation with their governments; and carrying on other lawful activities deemed necessary and related to the corporation's purpose.

Membership: Regular: physicians and other healthcare professionals who are properly licensed and who are members in good standing in their respective professional organizations, and interested lay people. Honorary: individuals who have rendered meritorious service and/or members who have reached the age of 65. Sustaining: individuals or organizations interested in the activities of the organization and who contribute in ways other than active service in the field.
