New regulations issued Aug. 1, 2012 change certain Medicare GME payment rules mentioned in this webcast. Specifically, effective for hospitals that begin training residents in a new GME program for the first time on of after Oct. 1, 2012, the period of time for building the resident cap is extended from three to five years and the cap is set in the fifth, rather than the third year after training begins.
