Health Policy Fellowship, Training in Policy Studies Program Now Accepting Applications

April 27, 2012:

Are you an osteopathic physician, resident or related professional who is seeking a leadership role at the intersection of osteopathic medicine and health policy? Consider applying for the Health Policy Fellowship (HPF) or the Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) program.

Health Policy Fellowship

HPF is a year-long AOA Certificate Program for mid-career osteopathic physicians. Executive-level health care professionals with a connection to osteopathic medicine are also eligible. The deadline to apply is June 1, 2012.

HPF participants will:

  • Attend nine three-day weekend seminars, which are rotated among osteopathic medical colleges and the Washington, D.C. area offices of the AOA and AACOM.

  • Study topics including federal and state roles in health policy, federal advocacy, access to care for the uninsured, vulnerable populations, rural health and the health care workforce.

  • Complete reading, research and writing assignments between seminars.

  • Join the network of 190 osteopathic physicians and professionals associated with the osteopathic medical profession who have completed the HPF program.

Training in Policy Studies

TIPS is a program for second- and third-year (PGY2 and PGY3) osteopathic residents interested in health policy. The fellowship can be used for CME and academic credit. There is no tuition; however, travel and lodging average $1,000 per seminar, so most fellows apply for financial support from a specialty or state osteopathic association, hospital or college of osteopathic medicine.

TIPS participants will:
  • Attend four intensive three-day seminars, held in New York, Chicago and twice in Washington, D.C.

  • Explore important and timely issues in health policy.

  • Join the network of more than 60 resident physicians who have completed the TIPS program.
