AOA Accepting Nominations for Distinguished Service Certificate

May 2, 2012:

Do you know a physician or lay individual who has made an extraordinary contribution to advancing the osteopathic medical profession? The AOA is now accepting nominations for the Distinguished Service Certificate, the association's highest honor.

Eligibility

To qualify for the Distinguished Service Certificate, nominees must have made outstanding contributions to the understanding and advancement of osteopathic medicine through research, education, financial aid or other areas that enable the profession to make a greater contribution to public health. Note that this award recognizes contributions to the overall profession, rather than local or regional efforts. Nominations must come from an osteopathic state, specialty or non-practice association, or from a college of osteopathic medicine.

Selection Criteria

Selection for the Distinguished Service Certificate will be based on nominees' contributions to the osteopathic profession in one or more of the following areas:

  • Advancement of the overall osteopathic medical profession
  • Osteopathic medical education
  • Research
  • Philanthropic leadership

Award Details

  • Award recipients will receive travel reimbursement for round-trip airfare and a one-night hotel stay to attend the OMED opening session in San Diego during October 2012, where awardees will receive their certificate and recognition.

  • No more than three individuals will be awarded the AOA Distinguished Service Certificate in any given year.
  • Current elected officers of the AOA or its affiliate organizations are not eligible to receive the award during their term of service.
