AOSED was organized in 1918 for the purpose of strengthening AOA-affiliated state divisional societies, promoting coordination of divisional society programs, providing assistance for the development of divisional society leadership, and aiding with efforts of the AOA in the advancement of the osteopathic profession in the United States.
Active members are state executive directors, executive secretaries, secretaries, or secretary-treasurers.
Associate members are second or third staff executive whose chief executive is an active member.
Honorary members have rendered outstanding and extraordinary service to the society.
Dues of active members are based on the number of AOA members in the organization.
