An AOA board-certified family physician, Dr. Sevensma serves as the director of medical education at the Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming, Mich., and as medical director at the Metro Health – Community Clinic in Grand Rapids. She is also an assistant clinical professor for the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) in East Lansing and regional dean for the Kirksville (Mo.) College of Osteopathic Medicine-A.T. Still University.

Prior to joining the AOA’s Board of Trustees in 2009, Dr. Sevensma served as the Michigan Osteopathic Association’s 2007-2008 president and president of the Kent County Osteopathic Association and the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Directors and Medical Educators.

Dr. Sevensma received the Patenge Medal of Public Service from Michigan State University; was a Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians Osteopathic Family Physician of the Year; was recognized with the AOA’s Mentor Hall of Fame Award; and has received the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Breath of Life Award.

Dr. Sevensma earned her osteopathic medical degree from MSUCOM in 1982 and completed her postdoctoral medical training at what is now the Metro-Health Hospital in Grand Rapids.
