Sonbol A. Shahid-Salles, DO, MPH, currently serves as the New Physician in Practice member of the AOA Board of Trustees.

Dr. Shahid-Salles is a board certified emergency medicine physician at Sacred Heart Health System in Pensacola, Florida. She also serves as a clinical assistant professor of emergency medicine at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and as a clinical assistant professor of internal medicine at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, both in East Lansing.

In addition to her involvement in the AOA, Dr. Shahid-Salles is an active member of numerous organizations including the Michigan Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians and the American College of Emergency Physicians. She serves as a student mentor for the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association.

Dr. Shahid-Salles has received several honors and awards, including the Genesys Regional Medical Center Intern and Resident of the Year nominee, the National Student DO of the Year, and the AOA Presidential Memorial Leadership Award nominee.

Dr. Shahid-Salles earned a Master of Public Health degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Following graduate school, Dr. Shahid-Salles worked with program managers, medical officers, researchers and Ministers of Health around the world while collaborating with the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health under the stewardship of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. An important element of her work was to inform broad health policy in developing countries. Dr. Shahid-Salles earned her osteopathic medical degree from University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency training at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc.

Dr. Shahid-Salles has tremendous interest in advocating for quality and patient safety issues. As an emergency medicine resident, she established and conducted a research study related to the important issue of transfer of care for safer patient care within the Emergency Department. Dr. Shahid-Salles also works tirelessly to bring light to the public health issue of human trafficking.
