The AOA monitors and advocates on legislation, regulations, and licensure issues at all levels of state government. While the association covers a wide range of subjects, important areas include scope of practice, pain management, medical liability reform, US licensure, and osteopathic medicine equivalency.
The AOA's Division of State Government Affairs also works in conjunction with the AOA’s Bureau of State Government Affairs (BSGA) to discuss emerging and ongoing policy at several regularly scheduled yearly meetings.
The SGA monitors activity at the state level through a combination of an electronic 50-state legislative tracking system, news from publications and other professional organizations, and communication with AOA members and affiliates.
