Jan. 21, 2014:
Aetna Inc. agreed to settle a class action lawsuit that alleged that the insurer used a flawed database to reimburse out-of-network providers. According to the lawsuit, the Ingenix database was used which consistently understated the “usual, customary and reasonable” rates. These understated rates triggered providers to be under-reimbursed and subscribers to have higher out-of-pocket expenses.
How to Submit a Claim
The Aetna Out-of-Network Class Action Lawsuit Settlement forms were mailed to physicians and subscribers in late December 2013. The documents include the notice of the proposed settlement, instructions for filing a proof of claim and the claim form.
The completed proof of claim form should be postmarked no later than March 28, 2014, and sent to the Settlement Administrator at Aetna UCR Litigation, c/o Berdon Claims Administration LLC, P.O. Box 15000, Jericho, NY 11853-0001.
