If you are an AOA member, we encourage you to consider serving on the Council on Women's Health Issues. Appointments to the council are made annually by the incoming AOA president. Please check back for more information about council nominations.

Through its Council on Women's Health Issues, the AOA works to advance the osteopathic medical profession in educating practicing physicians, future physicians, and the general public concerning gender-based issues in women's health.

    This organization is dedicated exclusively to the physical, mental and emotional health of women by promoting the practice of obstetrics and gynecology according to acceptable standards in the community.
  • American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists
    This is a private, voluntary, nonprofit membership organization which serves as a strong advocate for quality health care for women.
  • American Heart Association Women's Website
    This website provides information specific to women and cardiovascular disease.
  • Black Women's Health Imperative
    This website is solely devoted to advancing the health and wellness of America's 19.5 million black women and girls through advocacy, community health and wellness education and leadership development.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - Women's Health
    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry established the Office of Women's Health to promote and improve the health, safety, and quality of life for women. The Office serves as an advocate for women's health issues and stimulates research, disease prevention programs and policy development.
  • National Asian Women's Health Organization
    NAWHO is a national nonprofit health organization with a mission to achieve health equity for Asian women and families.
  • North American Menopause Society
    NAMS is North America's leading nonprofit membership organization dedicated to promoting the health and quality of life of women through an understanding of menopause.
  • National Osteoporosis Foundation
    This is the leading consumer and community-focused health organization dedicated to the prevention of osteoporosis and broken bones, the promotion of strong bones for life and the reduction of human suffering through programs of public and clinician awareness, education, advocacy and research.
  • NIH Office of Research on Women's Health
    Serves as a focal point for women's health research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and works in partnership with the NIH institutes and centers to ensure that women's health research is part of the scientific framework at NIH and throughout the scientific community.
  • Society for Women's Health Research
    A national nonprofit organization based in Washington DC, that is widely recognized as the thought leader in research on sex differences and is dedicated to improving women’s health through advocacy, education, and research.
  • US Food and Drug Administration - For Women
    This FDA office was established by Congressional mandate in 1994. The mission of the office is to protect and advance the health of women through policy, science, and outreach and to advocate for the participation of women in clinical trials and for sex, gender, and subpopulation analyses.
