Advancing the distinctive philosophy and practice of osteopathic medicine

Quality and Research

physician-research.JPGThe AOA works to advance the osteopathic medical profession through research programs and quality initiatives. In addition to developing quality improvement activities for residents and practicing physicians through the Clinical Assessment Program (CAP), the AOA monitors the quality movement on a national scale.

Clinical Assessment Program

The Clinical Assessment Program (CAP) is a Web-based performance measurement program developed by the American Osteopathic Association that analyzes data abstracted directly from patient medical records.

  • CAP for Physicians measures current clinical practices in the physician’s office and compares the physician's outcomes measures to their peers and national measures.

  • CAP for Residencies provides a mechanism for osteopathic residency programs to measure and improve the quality of patient care they provide their patients.

  • CAP for PQRS provides physicians with an opportunity to receive enhanced payment from CMS and understand how patients are doing using evidence-based process and outcome measures.
