Earn CME Through Early Childhood Development Learning Modules

The All It Takes Is H.E.A.R.T. initiative arms physicians with tools to promote healthy brain development.

The AOA has partnered with Erikson Institute to develop a series of online education modules designed for physicians specializing in family practice, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. Those who complete all three modules will receive a professional development certificate from Erikson Institute.

Module 1: Communication

Learn communication cues, self-regulation tactics and tips to improve efficiency during patient visits. This activity is approved for 2 AOA Category 1-B CME credits.



Module 2: Social & Emotional Development

Gain insight on optimal social-emotional and typical/atypical development. This activity is approved for 2 AOA Category 1-B CME credits.​



Module 3: Risk Factors & Protective Resources

Find tools to help identify toxic stress and other factors. Identify resources to help manage the needs of children with diabetes.​ This activity is approved for 2 AOA Category 1-B CME credits.​


Designed For Physicians By Physicians

Sarah Cole, DO, served on the Curriculum Development Workgroup which created content for the "All It Takes Is H.E.A.R.T." education modules. She is the featured speaker for Module 3. Dr. Cole is the program director of Mercy Family Medicine residency program in St. Louis and serves as a member  of the Missouri Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors.

Scott Cyrus, DO, served on the Curriculum Development Workgroup and is the featured speaker for Module 2. Dr. Cyrus is Past President of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians and Associate Professor and Chair of the Pediatric Department for the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Alissa Craft, DO, MBA, served on the Curriculum Development Workgroup and is the featured speaker for Module 1. She is an osteopathic pediatrician​.

Octavia Cannon, DO, was a member of the Curriculum Development Workgroup focused on developing content for the online modules. Dr. Cannon serves as Vice President of the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
