Page Content:
57th AOA Annual Research Conference

Held in conjunction with the AOA’s Osteopathic Medical Conference & Exposition (OMED)

Location: Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Las Vegas

Dates: Monday, Sept. 30 – Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013

Program Chairs: Stanley E. Grogg, DO, FACOP, FAAP, and Leigh Goodson, PhD

Theme: "From Bench to Bedside"

Note: The 57th Annual Research Conference program schedule, presentation summaries, abstracts, and speaker photos and bios are available on the AOA website at www.osteopathic.org/conference-schedule. After the conference, speaker presentations will be posted on the same page.

Program at a Glance

The AOA Research Conference provides a national forum for osteopathic physicians, scientific researchers, residents, interns, and students, who are involved in, support, and are interested in research. The conference serves to promote research within the osteopathic profession and to allow the profession to demonstrate its research interests and strengths. The conference’s goal is to disseminate research findings and to create a forum for osteopathic scientists to discuss their mutual interests concerning funding, administrative policies, and research interest topics that may lead to collaboration.

While the quantity and quality of osteopathic research has significantly improved since the turn of the century, the impact of this research has been limited in both osteopathic practice and training. In an era of evidence-based medicine, poor dissemination of this evidence will have negative consequences for this profession. Consequently, a primary goal of this three-day conference is to consolidate evidence from research that has occurred in this century and to disseminate it by highlighting the most rigorous and promising research within the program. Each day, conference participants will have the opportunity to:

Evaluate recent research

Identify the “strengths and gaps” within the current evidence-based Osteopathic Research.

Conference Theme: “From Bench to Bedside”

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this event, participants will:

Have a comprehensive review of significant research by osteopathic physicians, biomedical scientists and colleges of osteopathic medicine

Be able to institute the research findings into their clinical practice
