Updates to CMS eRx Incentive Program

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has mailed notifications to physicians about payment adjustments under the E-Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program in response to complaints from physicians about being wrongly subjected to the 1% payment reduction when they had successfully e-prescribed or had hardship exemptions previously approved. The 1% reduction should only apply when a physician does not meet the requirements under the eRx program or has not received a hardship exemption. Physicians can avoid the 2013 payment reduction if they e-prescribe ten times within the first six months of the year. Physicians who have applied for an exemption will receive an email if their exemption has been approved, but in the meantime may still see a 1% payment reduction.  If you are experiencing problems with the e-prescribing incentive program payments, please contact the AOA at govt-issues@osteopathic.org.
