Health Policy Notes

Bloomberg.com reported on 3/1/12 that President Obama’s FY13 budget includes a plan to reduce federal funding for teaching hospitals, primarily curbing training for primary care physicians in favor of specialty positions that are more profitable.

The 3/1/12 Wall Street Journal reported on a new Kaiser poll, which found that 70% of respondents believe that Medicare should continue operating as is today, with the government guaranteeing a certain set of health benefits, while 25% believed it should be changed to have the government guarantee each senior a fixed amount of money to put toward health insurance.

Kaiser Health News reported on 3/1/12 that about 80% of uninsured adults living in San Francisco (55,000 people) have enrolled in the Healthy San Francisco benefits program, and about 70% of those are getting a primary care visit once a year.
