Osteopathic Delegation Travels to South Korea

jaseng.jpg

AOA President Martin S. Levine, DO, and I are in Seoul, South Korea, this week as ambassadors of the U.S. osteopathic medical profession.  We are accompanied in this mission by William Strampel, DO, Dean of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Reza Nassiri, DSc, MSUCOM Associate Dean of Global Health, and Sung Soo Chung of MSUCOM’s Visiting International Professional Program.  The major goal of the trip is to petition to the Korea Ministry of Health and Welfare for recognition of U.S.-trained osteopathic physicians in South Korea. Today we visited Jaseng Hospital of Korean Eastern Medicine and “rounded” the hospital with several Korean physicians who visited AOA Headquarters in November 2011.  We met with Jaseng founder Dr. Joon Shik Shin to learn about his philosophy of “self-healing.” Jaseng, which translates into Self Generation, has 13 hospitals throughout South Korea and 5 clinics in the U.S.
