AOA President Martin S. Levine, DO, and I continue our work in Seoul, South Korea, this week as ambassadors of the U.S. osteopathic medical profession. Today’s activities included a presentation to officials in the Korean Ministry of Health and Social Welfare on the U.S. model of osteopathic medicine and its parity with MDs in terms of practice rights in the U.S. and 60 countries. We then met with the Korean Minister of Health and Welfare, Chemin Rim, and the Vice Minister to ask for recognition of DOs as physicians in South Korea (pictured above). We are accompanied in this mission by William Strampel, DO, Dean of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Reza Nassiri, DSc, MSUCOM Associate Dean of Global Health. On behalf of the AOA, I extended an invitation to Minister Rim to attend and speak at the BIOMEA International Seminar taking place at OMED 2012 next Fall. See Fact for details.
