Update and Response on ACA Challenges

As previously reported, the Supreme Court has concluded more than six hours of oral arguments in the challenge to the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  The biggest question appears to be the Court’s ruling on the individual mandate issue. The Court now will deliberate and issue a final ruling, anticipated in June.  One person interested in these proceedings, Aaron R. Hoffman, OMS IV at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, had his opinion piece published in the Press of Atlantic City on 3/29/12 declaring his support for the ACA. As Student Dr. Hoffman wrote, “It is time that we set aside partisan arguments and objectively look at all of the benefits that the ACA provides…We must not return to the old, broken system, in which our freedom to receive necessary services was left to the mercy of faceless insurance companies, and our seniors were forced to choose between their medication and their grocery bills.”
