Health Policy Notes

The 3/20/12 Washington Post reported that uninsured Americans consumed $116 billion of health care services in 2008.  Also that year, people without insurance did not pay for 63% of their health care costs, according to the Obama administration’s brief defending the constitutionality of the ACA’s “individual mandate.”

The New York Times reported on 3/19/12 that overweight doctors may be less likely than other physicians to discuss diet and exercise with patients, and less likely to make a diagnosis of obesity, according to a study published online in the journal Obesity.

Lois Margaret Nora, MD, JD, MBA, has been named President and CEO of the American Board of Medical Specialties.  Nora currently serves as the Interim President and Dean at The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Penn.
