The AOA Council on Women’s Health Issues (CWHI) met via teleconference last evening under the leadership of Capt. M. Joseph Kaczmarczyk, DO, MPH, Chair. The CWHI’s mission is to provide leadership and focus for the profession in educating practicing physicians, future physicians, and the general public concerning gender-based issues, including preventive health care. To this end, the Council reviewed 2007 AOA House of Delegates policies concerning women’s health that are “sunsetting” at the upcoming Annual Meeting and drafted new resolutions for 2012 to address breast self-exams and the patient-centered medical home. The Council also discussed the USPSTF recommendations on screening for cervical cancer.
