Health Policy Notes

A Washington Post-ABC News poll found that more than half of Americans think the Supreme Court justices will be acting mainly on their partisan political views than on a neutral reading of the law when they decide the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act, the paper reported on 4/12/12.

The 4/19/12 CQ HealthBeat reported that the CDC is warning against measles outbreaks, especially among children who are not vaccinated for the highly infectious disease, following reports of more measles cases in 2011 (222 cases) than at any time in the past 15 years (median of 60 per year).

The 4/17/12 Wall Street Journal reported that 935,000 Americans will suffer a heart attack this year. However, the rate of U.S. deaths from coronary disease has declined 75%, adjusted for age, since 1968, and 10 minutes of brisk exercise a day can reduce heart attack risk by nearly 50%.
