AOA Cluster Includes COCA, BOM and BOC

A “cluster” of AOA bureau, council and committees met this past weekend at the O’Hare Hilton in Chicago to carry out their directives while providing opportunities for collaboration.

  • The AOA Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) convened under the leadership of Kenneth J. Veit, DO, MBA, Chair, to review comments and act on proposed changes to its college accreditation standards. The COCA amended and approved revised standards related to the colleges’ responsibility for osteopathic GME, which will become effective on 7/1/13.  Read more online.
  • The Bureau of Membership, with AOA Trustee Susan Sevensma, DO, Chair, presiding,  discussed potential membership implications of new practice models, such as Accountable Care Organizations, and reviewed preliminary FY2012 membership results showing strong membership growth and retention for this year.  The Bureau also heard and supported plans to reposition the iLearn Mentor program to utilize social networking.
  • The Bureau of Communications selected the first recipient of the AOA's Excellence in Health Journalism award; applauded media efforts in 2011 showing an audience reach of more than 418 million people; discussed the new members-only section of the AOA's website including expanded exclusive content and personalized news feeds; and outlined marketing plans for the Are We There Yet? Campaign, among other activities.  AOA Trustee Thomas Ely, DO, presided.

Tomorrow’s Daily Report will other cluster meetings that took place, including BOGMED and BOCER.
