A new Commonwealth Fund poll of 2,100 people ages 19 to 64 found that 26% of non-elderly adults went without health insurance at some point in 2011, a percentage that researchers said equals about 48 million people when measured against U.S. Census data. 

The 4/23/12 USA Today reported that some physicians and patients are working together to remove insurance regulations through “retainer practices” where patients pay set monthly fees in exchange for specific health care services; over 20 states have laws allowing physicians to have retainer agreements with patients. 

U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said in a statement on 4/23/12 that Medicare’s Hospital Insurance Trust Fund will have resources sufficient to cover benefits until 2024, the same year that was projected in last year’s report, the National Journal reported
