I visited the Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (MWU/CCOM) today to talk to members of the school’s Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) chapter and other first- and second-year students about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and how the health care reform law will transform their education, training and practice. My remarks, titled “Health Care Reform and You: GREAT by Choice,” covered various aspects of the ACA, provisions implemented over the last two years, why the AOA supported the legislation, and further reforms we hope to achieve. Osteopathic medical students had the opportunity to ask questions and have a frank discussion on the law’s impact on the practice of medicine. CCOM is proud that 80% of their freshman class are members of SOMA! AOA Past President Karen J. Nichols, DO, is their Dean.
