Remarks Given at Midwest Health Conference

Meanwhile, I returned to Chicago today to serve as a panel speaker at the Midwest Business Group on Health’s 32nd Annual Conference, whose theme was “Health Benefits Labyrinth: Discover Your Path.”  My panel discussion focused on the changing roles of hospitals and physicians and featured Susan DeVore, President & CEO of Premier Healthcare Alliance, and Daniel Wolfson, EVP/COO of the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation.  My remarks addressed the Affordable Care Act’s impact on primary physicians’ practices, particularly how new practice models like Accountable Care Organizations and the Patient-Centered Medical Home, can improve access, reduce cost, and enhance the quality of care. The audience counted about 300-400 employers, health plans, and other health care entities from several Midwestern states.
