Joint Advocacy against Unneeded Regulations

The AOA and the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society (NYSOMS) wrote to the Chair of the New York State Assembly’s Health Committee this week in opposition to AB 8176, a bill that would require all health care professionals to complete continuing medical education training regarding pain management and palliative care every four years. This specific requirement adds a burden for physicians licensed in the “Empire State” by requiring a specific continuing education course.  The AOA and NYSOMS believe that AB 8176 is unnecessary for physicians, as current education and CME requirements already ensure that physicians are achieving lifelong learning and training. Additional overly restrictive and difficult licensure requirements are unnecessary and could detrimentally impact the number of physicians who provide lifesaving health care in New York.
