The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, as part of the Strong Start initiative, has developed an online toolkit that provides resources for health care providers and community-based organizations to utilize in helping expectant mothers get safe, evidence-based care, and improve their newborn’s chances for good physical and developmental health.

The Institutes of Medicine has released a new report, Public Engagement on Facilitating Access to Antiviral Medications and Information in an Influenza Pandemic, which explores potential alternative strategies for facilitating access to antiviral medications and treatment during an influenza pandemic. 4

Nearly 19 million adults and about 7 million children had asthma in 2010​, according to a new CDC report, raising the proportion of people in the U.S. with the condition nearly 15% since 2001. Asthma was responsible for nearly 3,400 deaths and about 480,000 hospitalizations in 2010, HealthDay News reported on 5/15/12.
