ONC Releases Privacy Rules

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) has released the "Guide to Privacy and Security of Health Information." As part of core requirements specified for meaningful use under the electronic health record (EHR) incentive program, eligible professionals must conduct or review a security risk analysis for protection of electronic health information. The guide is designed to be an easy-to-use resource that assists health care professionals with integrating privacy and security into clinical practice.  It includes information on privacy and security requirements under meaningful use, suggestions on managing and mitigating risks, and "best practices" for protection of information, among other topics.
