AOA Supports Alzheimer's Disease Research

AOA staff attended a 5/15/12 National Institutes of Health (NIH) 2012 Research Summit on Alzheimer’s Disease, during which Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius released the Administration’s plan to find more effective approaches to prevent and treat Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias.  The initiative calls for research projects and clinical trials that focus on new approaches; providing high quality training for physicians and nurses on recognizing the symptoms of the disease; and information resources to help caregivers, family members, and patients.  The President’s proposed budget for 2013 requests a $100 million increase for Alzheimer’s research.  Details about the plan are available online.
