Health Policy Notes

The New York Times reported on 5/18/12 that two new reports published in the journal Science last week indicated that large numbers of very rare genetic mutations may underlie common human diseases like schizophrenia and cancer.

The 5/9/12 CQ HealthBeat reported that 70% of small businesses with fewer than 25 employees—about 3.2 million businesses total—are eligible for tax credits to help them provide insurance for their workers, according to a Families USA/Small Business Majority study.

Medpage Today reported on 5/14/12 that a new study of medical malpractice claims found that 55.2% of such claims that required some defense cost led to litigation; however, of the claims that do go to court, most are ultimately decided in the physician’s favor.
