The AOA Bureau of Socioeconomic Affairs (BSA) convened via conference call last evening under the leadership of David Hitzeman, DO, Chair. The BSA is charged with educating DOs and the osteopathic community on the “business of medicine,” as well as advocate the beneficial contributions that osteopathic medicine provides to a complete health care system. To this end, the BSA provided comments on AOA policies set to “sunset” this year to ensure our policies support current practice management best practices and enable more support for DOs. Members also were updated on ICD-10 implementation delays, reviewed the AOA’s response to a CMS proposed rule on overpayments, and made comments on the federal Stage 2 “Meaningful Use” requirements. AOA Trustees John Becher, DO, Boyd R. Buser, DO, and Suzanne K. Kelley, DO, all participated on the call.
