Health Policy Notes

The 5/30/12 CQ HealthBeat reported that 13.5 million people are covered by Health Savings Account insurance plans as of January 2012, rising 18% from 11.4 million the year before and 6.1 million in 2008.

A Commonwealth Fund poll has found that 47% of adults aged 19 to 25 joined or remained on their parents' plans between November 2010 and November 2011, or about 13.7 million young adults, of whom 6.6 million would not have been able to obtain such coverage before the Affordable Care Act, the 6/7/12 Chicago Tribune reported.

A study of Memphis-area emergency room patients published in the 5/31/12 Journal of General Internal Medicine found that the hospital’s health information data-sharing system was associated with decreased diagnostic imaging and increased evidence-based guideline adherence…but was not associated with reductions in overall costs.
