Health Policy Notes

The New York Times reported on 6/11/12 that the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has decided that 50 different types of cancer should be added to the list of illnesses covered by a $4.3 billion fund set up to compensate and treat people exposed to the toxic smoke, dust and fumes in the months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality reported on 6/8/12 that poor and low-income Americans are more likely than others to report that their medical care provider usually or never showed respect for their treatment preferences nor asked them to share in making decisions about treatment.

CMS has launched a Quality Reporting Communication Support Page for Medicare Electronic Prescribing (eRx) payment adjustment hardship exemption requests.  To request a significant hardship, eligible professionals must submit their requests through the Quality Reporting Communication Support Page before 6/30/12.
