Health Policy Notes

The 6/13/12 USA Today reported that healthy postmenopausal women should not take daily low doses of vitamin D and calcium to prevent bone fractures due to insufficient evidence to assess the risks and benefits of taking vitamin D, with  or without calcium.

The Wall Street Journal reported on 6/13/12 that health care spending is projected to jump 7.4% in 2014 when the ACA expands coverage to millions through Medicaid or exchanges; however, slower projected growth in the years after 2014 mean the law would have only a small impact on total health care expenditures in the long term.

The Hill’s “Healthwatch” blog reported on 6/6/12 that the CMS Innovation Center will pay roughly 500 local medical practices about $20 per Medicare beneficiary per month to provide enhanced services, such as better office ours and preventive care, in a four-year plan to improve health care delivery and reduce costs.
