Supreme Court Upholds All ACA Provisions
Today, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld all major provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).  Chief Justice John Roberts joined with the majority in a 5-4 decision upholding the constitutionality of the individual mandate as a valid exercise of Congressional taxing authority under the taxation clause of the Constitution. The Court said that the ACA’s Medicaid expansion could proceed as long as the federal government does not withhold states’ entire Medicaid allotment if they do not take part in the law’s Medicaid expansion.

The AOA released our official press statement this morning reflecting our ongoing commitment to reforming the health care system while recognizing the work that remains now that the Supreme Court has rendered its decision. Reform of the health care system has been and remains to be a challenge that we face as a nation—it will not end as a result of the Supreme Court decision.  The AOA stands ready to work to ensure the highest quality care for all patients and to work with Congress and the Administration to continue to improve the nation’s health care system.  A Town Hall meeting to discuss the decision will be held immediately prior to the House of Delegates meeting in Chicago on Thursday, 7/19/12, at 9 p.m.
