As most DOs know by now, the Supreme Court of the United States has upheld all major provisions of the Affordable Care Act in a 5-4 decision upholding the constitutionality of the individual mandate under the taxation clause of the Constitution, based on the fact that it was a valid exercise of Congressional taxing authority. Yesterday, the AOA released an official statement to the media yesterday reflecting our ongoing commitment to reforming the health care system while recognizing the work that remains now that the Supreme Court has rendered its decision.
Today AOA staff has prepared an analysis of the Supreme Court's decision and what it means for the future of health care in America. The AOA's Department of Government Relations will work in the days and weeks ahead to further analyze the decision in collaboration with the Joint Committee on Quality and Payment, the Bureau on Federal Health Programs and AOA leadership. In addition, the AOA has scheduled a Town Hall Meeting at the Annual House of Delegates on Thursday, 7/19/12 at 9 p.m. Join the Town Hall and read the full analysis online.
