Health Policy Notes

The 7/3/12 Kaiser Health News reported that the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion provision means that not only can states opt out of increasing the number of adults in Medicaid, but they also could cut people now enrolled.

The New York Times reported today that the Food and Drug Administration has approved a new HIV test that Americans can take in the privacy of their homes.  The test uses a mouth swab and gives results in 20 to 40 minutes.

An analysis published in the July Health Affairs found that as many as 12% of residents currently living in U.S. nursing homes are considered “low need”—patients who could live in their communities if they had the right support at home.
