SOMA Members Spread Holiday Cheer

The AOA is not the only one celebrating Christmas!  Many Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) members are participating in one of four regional Unity Projects next week.  The Region 1 project brings osteopathic volunteers to the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey on 12/29/10 for their Family Meals and Family Fun Night programs. SOMA members will plan a dinner menu, buy groceries, and prepare a special dinner and fun activities for about 30-40 people. In addition, participating SOMA members are holding collection drives to collect toiletries, non-perishable foods, paper products, bedding, and other supplies to donate to the Ronald McDonald House.  The Region 2 project, held in collaboration with the American Osteopathic Foundation, will send approximately 30 osteopathic medical students to Tutwiler, MS, next week to serve alongside AOA Great Pioneer Sister Anne Brooks at her Tutwiler Clinic.  The students will provide basic health care services to residents of one of the most underserved and lowest income regions of the country.  Students will also work with Habitat for Humanity to improve housing conditions for the residents of Tutwiler.  Learn about the Region 3 and 4 projects in January!
