The AOA and FOMA last evening co-hosted a Town Hall Meeting and Webinar on the upcoming one-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Upwards of 100 FOMA attendees participated at the live event and were joined by another 250 AOA members who called in to join the Webinar. President Nichols made opening remarks on the importance of teamwork towards sustainable reforms, and AOA Director of Government Relations Shawn Martin gave a comprehensive presentation on the major provisions of the bill, both those already in effect and future changes the bill authorizes. Following these presentations, members had the opportunity to ask about specific issues and provisions. No snakebites were suffered, as questions focused on physician payment issues, the impact of Accountable Care Organizations and Patient-Centered Medical Homes on the practice of medicine, and the prospects of obtaining bipartisan support for the patient bill of rights, among other issues. The entire presentation will be posted on Osteopathic.org in the next week.
