Health Policy Notes

Reuters reported on 2/23/11 that differences in access to medical care might be the key cause of racial and economic disparities in the U.S. health care system, according to a Kaiser Permanente study on more than 16,000 patients at KP hospitals in southern California.

The 2/17/11 Chicago Tribune reported that the U.S. health insurance industry is expected to report a decline in medical expenses in 2010 for the first time in 10 years, according to a new study showing medical costs fell 1.6% in the first nine months of 2010 and an estimated 3% overall.

A poll conducted by CBS News found that 55% of Americans said they would disapprove if Congress stopped funding for the new health care law, while only 35% stated they would approve of such an action, The Hill newspaper reported on 2/16/11.
