President Nichols, Dr. Vinn, and I continue our attendance at the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California’s (OPSC) 50th Annual Convention and Exposition, whose theme this year is “Fun in the Sun” – see the photo below! During the OPSC Opening Session yesterday, James Watson, MD, the keynote lecturer, reviewed the “science and promise of stem cells.” Later that evening at a Board dinner, we paid tribute to OPSC President Susan Mackintosh, DO, and Kathleen Creason, OPSC’s Executive Director, for their outstanding leadership this past year. Tomorrow we will participate in the OPSC Town Hall Meeting on health care reform, at which President Nichols has been asked to give remarks about the AOA’s advocacy in support of reforms and policies approved by our House of Delegates over the last 30 years. The OPSC expects over 400 attendees and 25 exhibitors at the Convention. The OPSC has a membership of 778 active DOs, 721 student members and 39 resident members.
