Health Policy Notes

The 4/8/12 New York Times reported that more than 830,000 visits to emergency rooms nationwide in 2009 were for preventable dental problems; dental disease is the also the number one chronic childhood disease. About 50 million Americans live in areas where there are no practicing dentists.

Medpage Today reported on 4/7/12 that 51% of its readers who responded to its recent poll said that the Affordable Care Act should not be repealed regardless of what the Supreme Court rules.  However, 45% were in favor of repeal in some form—34% in whole and 11% in part.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has released today and is seeking public comment on its draft recommendation statement regarding screening for ovarian cancer. Comments will be reviewed and incorporated as appropriate into the Task Force’s final recommendation statement.
