Health Policy Notes

The 4/25/12 USA Today reported that 1.4 million adolescents (ages 10-19) die each year from traffic injuries, complications of childbirth, suicide, violence, AIDS and other health-related causes, according to a UNICEF report published in The Lancet.

A 4/23/12 Associated Press article published in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Health Policy Digest reported that U.S. adults’ cholesterol levels continued to decline this year, affecting only 13% of the adult population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality has released Aprende a vivir (Learn to Live), a “videonovela” to help Spanish-speaking diabetes patients compare their treatment options.  AHRQ data show that, in 2008, Hispanics were more than twice as likely as Whites to be hospitalized for uncontrolled diabetes.
