Last week, AOA Trustee William Mayo, DO, and I joined the leadership of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Physicians, and the American Academy of Family Physicians in Washington, D.C., to urge legislators for full repeal of the flawed sustainable growth rate. We had meetings with members of the House-Senate Conference Committee and the bipartisan bicameral leadership for a total of 22 meetings—12 of which were with Members of Congress.
At the end of the day, we agreed that our meetings went very well and that this type of collaboration should be replicated on other issues important to our profession. Together, we represented over 400,000 physician members. Our effort demonstrated to Congress that physicians are capable of organizing and advancing a common message.
I’ve posted some pictures below from our meetings.

One of our 22 meetings for the day included a discussion about the importance of fully repealing the SGR with Senator Michael Crapo (Idaho).
