Earlier this week, more than 2,370 individuals anticipated results of the AOA Intern/Resident Registration Program, also known as the AOA Match. Of this number, approximately 78% of students and recent graduates successfully matched through the process.
As a primary care physician, I’m extremely proud to see increases in the percentage of matches from last year for family medicine and internal medicine at 16% and 21%, respectively. I'm also proud that 48% of AOA Match participants have opted to train in the specialties of family medicine, internal medicine and pediatrics. And as an osteopathic family physician, I took great pride upon learning that family medicine represented the largest matched specialty with more than 430 filled positions. No matter what specialty you have selected, I’d like to congratulate each one of you on your placement.
If you’re among those who didn’t match, don’t be discouraged and be sure to take advantage of the new AOA Post Match service
now available. You can search by location, specialty and a number of other criteria so use this excellent resource today. Your OGME training spot awaits.
