FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 25, 2011
(Chicago)—The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and HealthFusion is announcing today that HealthFusion’s MediTouch EHR® is the first electronic health record (EHR) vendor to connect directly to the AOA Clinical Assessment Program (CAP) for reporting to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS). The AOA CAP is qualified as one of registries for submitting data for the PQRS incentive payment program.
MediTouch EHR’s direct connection to the AOA CAP for PQRS simplifies the reporting of quality measures to CMS. With MediTouch®, the EHR automates many of the time-consuming steps required to report the standard quality measures to the PQRS.
MediTouch EHR’s proprietary Health Maintenance module reminds physicians at the point of care when there is an opportunity to complete one or more PQRS quality measures. The system uses coding performed by the provider and/or data captured via interfaces to automatically match the metrics of a PQRS quality measure to the unique treatment and medical exclusions for a specific patient. Data is calculated immediately so that the information is accurate and up to date. In fact, the system automatically prompts the physician with regard to patient selection for reporting, and formats reports so they meet the registry requirements.
The AOA CAP measures the medical care provided by osteopathic physicians (DOs) against evidence-based guidelines that represent state-of-the-art professional standards and has been highly successful in submitting data to CMS for the physician incentive bonus payments. Over 90% of participants using the AOA CAP have successfully submitted data.
“By partnering with the AOA CAP we are now able to make reporting PQRS measures much easier and faster than the standard approach. Physicians that use MediTouch EHR® and our free Health Maintenance Module to facilitate PQRS data collection get a double benefit: they are improving the health of their patient populations and simultaneously earning Medicare Incentive Payments,” stated Seth Flam, DO, CEO and President of HealthFusion.
MediTouch is also Meaningful Use Certified for the $44,000 - $64,000 federal cash stimulus.
“We aim to provide osteopathic physicians with the tools, training and resources they need to provide patients with the highest possible level of care, which participation in quality incentive programs like CMS’ PQRS helps them achieve,” said AOA President Martin S. Levine, DO. “MediTouch EHR’s novel method of collecting and formatting data works seamlessly with the AOA CAP to report PQRS measures for our members.”
Last year the MediTouch integrated EHR suite of products was selected by the AOA as its exclusive strategic EHR partner. The goal of the partnership is to promote adoption of electronic health records and create synergies related to quality improvement. Working together on PQRS reporting is just one step in realizing that goal.
