(CHICAGO) – Joseph M. Yasso, DO, was re-elected to the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) Board of Trustees at the organization’s annual business meeting in Chicago. A member of the board since 2007, Dr. Yasso served as the first vice president of the AOA during the past year.
“I am sincerely honored to continue representing the diverse interests of my fellow colleagues and serving the AOA as an advocate on their behalf,” says Dr. Yasso, an AOA board-certified family physician.
Dr. Yasso serves as the medical director of the Heritage Physicians Group in Independence, Mo. He also is a past president of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS). Additionally, he has been a member of both the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and the Missouri Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians since 1980.
Honors and Awards
MAOPS has bestowed many awards to Dr. Yasso, including the MAOPS President Award, the MAOPS Distinguished Service Award and the MAOPS Medallion Award. He has also been awarded with the Army Commendation Medal for his years of military service.
Dr. Yasso earned his osteopathic medical degree from what is now the Kansas City (Mo.) University of Medicine and Biosciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1977. He then went on to complete his postdoctoral training at the former Lakeside Hospital in Kansas City, and enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served as a flight surgeon based in Fort Hood, Texas.
