(CHICAGO) – Joseph A. Giaimo, DO, of West Palm Beach, Fla., was elected to a three-year term on the American Osteopathic Association’s (AOA) Board of Trustees in July at the organization’s annual business meeting in Chicago. Dr. Giaimo served as the AOA’s second vice president during the past year.
“It is an honor to continue to serve as an advocate and in a position of leadership for the osteopathic medical profession,” says Dr. Giaimo. “I greatly look forward to maintaining the AOA’s longstanding loyalty to its physicians and their patients.”
Dr. Giaimo is an AOA-board certified osteopathic internal and pulmonary medicine physician with a private practice in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He also serves as an active fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Osteopathic Internists. In addition to his work in pulmonology, Dr. Giaimo specializes in various forms of sleep medicine including treatment of insomnia and hypersomnia.
Professional Background
A proud member of the osteopathic medical profession, Dr. Giaimo has been a member of the AOA’s House of Delegates since 2000 and has recently served as chair of the AOA’s Bureau of Communications. He is also a past president of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA), and has served on FOMA’s executive committee for eight years.
In addition to operating his private practice in Palm Beach Gardens, Dr. Giaimo serves as the chief of pulmonary medicine on the Medical Council at the Palm Beach Garden Medical Center.
Honors and Awards
Dr. Giaimo is the recipient of the American Lung Association of Florida’s Physician Appreciation Award as well as the 2010 Physician of the Year by FOMA. He also served on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Practicing Physicians Advisory Council, which provided valuable input to the government on how CMS rules affect physicians until it was disbanded in 2010.
Education
Dr. Giaimo earned his osteopathic medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1987. Upon earning his degree, he completed his postdoctoral medical training at the Metropolitan Hospital – Central Division in Philadelphia, and at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford.
