(CHICAGO) – Richard R. Thacker, DO, a resident of Tallahassee, Fla., was recently elected as the third vice president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) at the organization’s annual House of Delegates meeting in Chicago. “I am extremely thankful for this opportunity to serve the AOA and to represent such a diverse group of osteopathic physicians,” says Dr. Thacker, an AOA board-certified internist and a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists.
Professional Background
Dr. Thacker serves as an internal medicine physician and chairman of the board for the Capital Regional Medical Group in Tallahassee. He is also an active member of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. In addition, he has been active at the state level, serving as a member of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) as well as the association’s president from 2006-2007.
The Capital Regional Medical Center awarded Dr. Thacker the Physician of the Year Award in 2009. He also was named FOMA Physician of the Year in 2008.
Education
Dr. Thacker received his osteopathic medicine degree in 1992 from the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He later completed his postdoctoral training at the Delaware Valley Medical Center in Langhorne, Pa., where he served as chief medical resident and received recognition as resident of the year.
